Information for preparation of papers
This page gives information for people who are typesetting a joint paper
with Shelah.
The contact address is
shlhetal AT math DOT huji DOT ac DOT il.
All these papers are processed electronically in the Shelah's Archive. The
public web frontend to this archive can be seen here. This public frontend is not always
up to date and does not contain all available files (only the so-called public
ones).
You can help the people working on this archive by implementing as many of
the following guidelines as possible.
We assume that you use LaTeX or (plain) TeX. If you have or want to use
another system (MS word, groff, whatever) then please send us the source
file as well as a .ps or .pdf file. Under Windows such a file can be
created with the free Adobe Postscript printer driver (just install the
driver and print to a file).
-
If the number of the paper is e.g. 1012, then call the
main tex file 1012.tex. Other source files
(.tex, .eps, ..) can be used (included) as well.
All the file used have to be in the same directory
(i.e. do not use subdirectories such as figures/fig1.eps).
-
Use bibtex for your bibliography, and always use
listb.bib
and
lista.bib
to cite (joint) papers of Shelah and his books, resp.
You can also use
listx.bib,
a bib file with various logic related citations.
If you additionally use other citations, put all of them into
a file called papernumber.bib, e.g. 1012.bib
-
Test which files you need to process your file.
(Sometimes people forget to send nonstandard packages or style
files they use, such as asl.cls etc.)
To make sure you send all the files that are needed, do
the following if possible:
use a computer with a standard tex implementation (e.g. tetex
or miktex) without additional style files/packages in the local
tex path. Create a new directory, copy all the files into
this directory and try to (la)tex/bibtex the file.
Send all the files that are required, apart from listb.bib,
listf.bib and listx.bib.
-
Send versions to shlhetal.
In your email, include as attachements (as single uncompressed files,
not as a zip archive) all the source files needed to
compile the paper (apart from the list?.bib files, as already mentioned).
-
You are invited to send versions to the archive regularly
while the paper is in progress.
You definitely should send every version that is submitted,
as well as galley proofs etc.
-
For every version you send, describe the status
(e.g. "I submitted this version to JSL today", or
"This version just fixes some typos", or "first draft" etc.)
and state whether this version should be public (a public version
will at some stage appear at the public front end, and might be submitted
to the arxiv).
-
Please always check with shlhetal what are the acknowledgments
Saharon wishes to have added to his name in the paper.
-
If you want to submit the paper to the arxiv, please do the following:
- In the arxiv field Report-no, add e.g.
Shelah [RoSh:480].
Use the appropriate paper number instead of 410,
and use your shelah-bibliography abbreviation instead of Ro,
if you do not know it look it up in
listb.bib,
if you do not yet have a joint paper with Shelah,
ask us for the correct abbreviation. Another example
for a Report-no entry: Shelah [KrSh:828].
- Bounce (or forward) your confirmation email (containing the
arxiv number and the paper-password) to us.
