Abstract:
It is known that the automorphism towers of infinite centreless groups of cardinality \kappa terminate in less than \left( 2^{\kappa} \right)^{+} steps. In this paper, we show that ZFC cannot settle the question of whether such automorphism towers actually terminate in less than 2^{\kappa} steps. - Version 2000-01-30_11 (25p) published version (23p)
